However fragmented the world, however intense the national rivalries, it is an inexorable fact that we become more interdependent every day.

Science just fascinates me. What do I find most exciting about it? Obviously, when you make a breakthrough, it is very exciting. But I get very excited regularly about small results in the lab, which would mean nothing to lots of people. Just getting techniques working successfully, and getting good rates of development of embryos in dishes. Or being able to image a particular organelle within an embryo within a cell&that really excites me, just seeing the data, and the work done.

section animation

Final model

My 2-dimensional section drawing for the model
The material used above the ground would be concrete columns, glass ceilings and marble floor.
The material used below would be concrete cells.

This perspective view emphasizes the dramatic shape and structure of the building and a good view of the book-shaped glass ceiling. I gained inspiration from our uni's iconic building. As you can see, the ceiling is folded just like a open book.

This is facade of the building in a section form. As you can see,it is built on rock and stones. It shows the orientation of the columns and the concrete columns embeded in the underground part. Together, they form a stable structure. The exhibition boards on the second floor are all suspended from the ceilings which saves a lot more space.

The picture indicates the view from the staircase to the second floor. The textures on the ground is originated from my drawings. The floor is marble charactered.

The underground part is like cells which are built from concrete because I wanted it to be stable. It is designed for the exhibition place for the artist Rosalie Gascoigne. There are two spiral staircases connecting the two floors so that the space seems larger.

It is designed as a moving staircase which delivers people on it with a cortex handrail . With the moving staircase, visitors will not be that tired walking through the long roads. Across the staircase is a exhibition borad introducing Fiona Hall, so people will get a well-rounded knowledge about the artist they visit.

The overall view shows the main walk road and the glass ceiling. I designed the walk road(marble charactered) in order to creat a step between the exhibiton place and the outside society, because I think art need space and tolerence and the gallery is where you can gain spiritual enjoyment which is holy.

(Reference:The trees alongside and the fountain on the road are the models I downloaded from 3D warehouse.)

This video shows the glimpse of the second floor which is the exhibition place for Fiona Hall. We could see the effect of transparent glass ceiling and the overall scenery.

This is a view mainly to show the undergroud structure and the interior environment of the building. The last clip shows the overall view of the underground cells as well as the relationship with the ground level.

ARCH1101 2009 EXP1 video1

This is a view through the goundfloor starting from the fountain road all the way up to the first floor.I composed this in order to give the viewer a sense of penetration through the building.
